The Drakemines
A rather large city situated towards the southwest of Vast, the Drakemines, as the names implies, formed around their large mining complexes. While the mines were originally a notable source of iron, the mines eventually started to dry up, and the already rather prosperous town began to diminish in wealth. However, rather than give up, the owner of the mines doubled his efforts, spending what he had left on hring even more miners to delve even further into the earth below.
While many questioned this choice, his efforts ultimately payed off. Deeper down, beyond the caches of iron they' almost fully mined out, the struck gems. Ruby at first, then amethyst, sapphire, and even diamonds. The tunnel network they eventually mined into seemed an endless twisting labyrinth of treasure and gems, and the mine quickly grew far richer than it had ever been before.
This wealth spread to the rest of the town, which rapidly grew as people flocked there following tales of its wealth. The mines continued to rapidly expand their worker base, and their wealth only grew as the mine's source of gems seemed to have no end.
Even now, it is one of the most prominent exporters of precious gems in the whole of the west, and has become one of the more famous town in Vast, a region largely known for having small, spread out settlements.
Beyond the endless mines, the town has grown into a proper city, with all the amenities one would expect that to come with. It has inns, shops, blacksmiths, rows of houses, and a large garrison of guards. Even for a town of its size the guard force here is particularly large, and the Coalition of Guardians has a headquarters here as well, as the town's fame is sure to attract all manner of men and creatures seeking the vast wealth beneath.
