Diacheiristís Neroú

In the arid climate of Awsranka, life is defined by water. From the arrival of the first refugees, those who understand the ways of water have enjoyed great prestigue, but also great responsibility. There are more than a few professions who contribute to the reliability and availability of water to the people and land - archetects and engineers who design and build the great aquaducts and resevoirs, for example. From the beginning, druids have been instumental in making sure people, their beasts and crops, have sufficient water. Those so dedicated are known as "Diacheiristis Nerou" - Water Wardens.   While the presesnce of Druidic magic has allowed agriculture to flourish in this land, the fact remains that water is power. Sadly, it is also a trueism that power corrupts. Wherever there is conflict over water magement, the potential for bribery and graft is present. Wardens are, after all, "only human" (some of them aren't, but take it figurativly), and scandles are not unknown.   Most Wardens carry out their responsibilities in settlements, but some travel the mountain ranges that provide snowmelt to the waterways of Awsranka. They measure the depth of the spring snow pack, work with rangers to mitigate spring flooding damage, and moniter resevoir levels. This may sound boring, but spending the summer traveling with a ranger brings sights and experiences that never fail to surprise.

Duties

Water Wardens are expected to work closely with their local grange and foresters lodge. They must balance the needs of the food producing land with the needs of the wilderness.

Responsibilities

If something involves water, it probably fallls under the pervue of the wardens.   Wardens are responsible for supervising new irrigation projects, aquaducts, sewers, and resevoirs, to name a few. They also are responsible for annual inspection of existing structures and reporting issues for repair.   Most of the druidic wardens are scattered to the high plains ranches and farms of northeastern Awsranka, ensuring that beasts and crops have sufficient water to therive.
