Ostian

Ostian are another group of immigrants who owe their existance to the interfearance of dragons. While they had originally intended to settle in Greenland, a dragon advised them to continue west, an continued with the as a guide. The settleres ended up in the area north of Awsranka, interacting and trading with some of the Free Lands tribes. With the coast firmly controled by the Ti'Swaq Alliance, the newcomers generally drifted south finally setteling in the semi arid lands and mountains of Awsranka.

These settlers brought with them a number of domesticated animals as well as metalurgy technology. They settled mostly in the semi arid canyons and river valleys of the Miskafiska river and its tributaries.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Feminine names generally end with -a, -lla, or -ka. They are frequently derived from the names of legendary valkirie, or from botanical sources.

Masculine names

Masculine names often end in a hard consonant, -n, -d, -th. Often derived from words in the old tongue refering to firece animals, or from warlike heros of the past.

Family names

Family names are generally patronymic: derived from the personal name (occasionally the occupation) of a person's father, or sometimes mother or other relative. This is usally constructed by adding the prefix -ton for a male offspring, or -sdottor for a female offspring. So we would have Bjornston, or Bjornsdottor.
Meta ref:

"Snæbjörn galti Hólmsteinsson; (c. 910 – c. 978) was the first Norseman to intentionally navigate to Greenland, doing so in 978 CE."

"His voyage followed the accidental discovery of lands west of Iceland by Gunnbjörn Ulfsson, probably in the early 10th century. According to records from the time, Galte led the first attempt to colonize the eastern coast of Greenland. However his effort ended with disaster and he was killed in internal strife. There had been a saga about the voyage of Snæbjörn, but it has been lost over time."
