Legend has it that the Phaistian people owe their survival to a great dragon. The original home of these people was on an island in a far away sea. There they were a wealthy and powerful. Their military fleet swept the region clear of pirates. Their mecrchant fleet brought gold, silk, spices, and other luxury goods from far off lands. But the Might of Gaea has no regard for the glory of man. A battle between Saphire Dragons and a swarm of abberations created a series of underground volcanic eruptions, which in turn spawned tsunamis large enough to wipe out the Phaistian's major costal cities and decimate their fleets. An Emerald dragon who had a long history with the mages among the Phaistian warned his friends, giving them enough time and leanding his aide to the creation of several portals, allowing most of the population to evacuate.

At least one of the portals opened a way to the shores near Si'ahl, a major Ti'Swaq city. Arriving with nothing but the clothes on their back, and unable to speak the local language, the once proud Phaistians were reduced to physical laborers, the lowest level of Ti'Swaqi society. The waters of the sound already dominated, the Phaistian remnant slowly made its way inland along the Miskafiska River to the semi-arid hills east of the Ryopytav Mountains. There they have stayed, sharing the rangeland with the westeren contiginent of the Free Lands, specifically the Makokamit people.
