The Pseudodragon
The Beast was large, nearly fifteen feet long. It had gray scales, and a body that was almost shaped like a wedge, with the beast starting out thick, and slightly thinning near the tail. The beast was still massive, and powerful, and able to land at incredibly high velocity. It had a large mouth, that opens like a maw. It had tiny eyes protected by protrusions of scales, and fixed them on the Ranger before it. It growled, and stamped a foot.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Pseudodragon has four legs and a set of wings. Its bones are light, but incredibly tough. It has a thick coating of scales on its body, which helps to protect it from harm. The Pesudodragon has incredibly powerful muscles, used for rending apart prey. The Pseudodragon has long talons, and fangs, which aid in the rending of flesh and crushing of bones.
Genetics and Reproduction
Pseudodragons lay eggs, which take up to three months to hatch.
Growth Rate & Stages
Hatchling- 0-3 years. The Pseudodragon at this point is unable to be trained, and is focussed only on mastering its body, and learning to hunt. Pseudodragons are pack animals, so the mother and father of the creature will stay with it during this phase of development.
From 4-6 years, the Pseudodragon is a juvenile. At this point, training by Draconic Rangers can begin. The creature will be taught command words, and how to support and bear a Legionnaire Squadron in flight. It will also be taught evasive maneuvers, and how to best use its strength in combat.
From 6 years to 10 years of age, the Pseudodragon is used by the Rangers. The Pseudodragons have a relatively low fatality rate, due to their toughness, and to the care that Rangers have for them.
After 10 years of age, the Pseudodragon is allowed to retire, and life its life within the Ranger's Breach. Some ancient beasts are known to stay in the Legion, accompanying heroes of the Legion.
Ecology and Habitats
The Pseudodragons are most commonly found in the mountains around the Draconic Capital of Nazeth. The Pseudodragons hunt various animals there, and were originally a threat to Draconic people, until the Rangers began to tame them.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Pseudodragons must eat half their body weight in meat every day. They hunt using similar methods to birds of prey, swooping down and catching whatever they wish to eat.
Biological Cycle
Every year, Pseudodragons shed a layer of scales, with a new one underneath.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Pseudodragons can see, hear, smell, taste, touch, and have a natural attunement to the Arcane, helping it to detect prey.
Conservation Status
The Pseudodragon is bred by the Legion for use by Rangers.
