Come See

Come See is one of the boys in Long Steps' pack. Although not one of the original members, he has the distinction of being one of the first to have been in it his entire post-childhood life.

He has a good eye for noticing colors and patterns, and is excellent at spotting animals even when they are camouflaged.

Personal history

Come See was born in Star Flower Village and grew up in the pipe tree district. He was given the name of Hard Heels, but while still a child he was most often called Stop Running. When Long Steps sheltered in that same district of Star Flower Village with his pack, he observed the boy's propensity for running from place to place and invited him to join them. Almost immediately the boys began calling him Come See because he enjoyed finding interesting things to look at.

After a childhood of being ignored or disparaged by women, the camaradarie of a boy pack was a refreshing change. Come See learned more of the history of the river villages and of the important role boys play in keeping them connected and thriving. He admires Long Steps immensely, and will do anything to help his hero.

Mental Trauma

In his first dry season with the pack, Come See was excited to see new villages. He was running ahead as they approached Moon Wish village when a woman jumped out of hiding and grabbed his arm. Long Steps distracted the woman to make her let go, and Come See escaped with the other boys. Long Steps met up with them later, and they did not go into the village after all, but retreated to the crossroads. Long Steps never said what the woman did to him, but Come See knows it was bad, and is convinced that it is his fault that it happened.

Motivation

Come See loves seeing new things and new places.  As much as he likes being the first to find something, he is just as happy to be the first person it is shown to.

View from the future:

20 years
At the time that the radical women lost their challenge against Moon Wish, Come See had become lead boy of Long Steps' pack. When no village would accept the losing side, he proposed migrating farther down the river.
