The Royal Atheneum
Public architectural record
Property of the Royal Atheneum of Hövnís, Eörpe
The Royal Atheneum is a famous landmark on Eörpe thought to host the most exhaustive repository of collected knowledge in existence. While the building itself is sealed off to anyone but security and maintenance personnel, the majority of its data remains accessible through the various initiatives run by the academy and research institutes that's grown around it.
Etymology & Definition
While the building's proper name is the exact same as the academy/research grounds that's grown up around it, it's become prevalent to remove the last part 'of Hövnís' in an attempt to at least alleviate some possible referential confusion. There's been several petitions to rename either the building or the academy grounds, but so far they've been declined.History
The Royal Atheneum was the original building petitioned by the Center of Science & Culture petitioned the High Republic Parliament, under the governance of First Union Minister Gidén Hammarut, to be build and used for the centralization and protection of mutually important information to the newly formed Eörpan Collective circa 6500 years ago.Purpose
The Royal Atheneum is an exhaustive databank maintained by specialized regirals, whose primary purpose is to serve as a centralized storage for all the accumulated knowledge of the United Worlds. External archives, libraries, schools and other entities can request access to literary and factual works stored in the Royal Atheneum and have their local archives be kept updated through regular meshverse updates.Architechture
The architecture followed the contemporary style at the time, which consisted of clean and angular shapes with minimal decorations.Material Composition
The building was build from a combination of moresteel, plasticrete, shellstone, and plasteel.Structure & Layout
Exterior
The building consists of a olive-tinted moresteel octagonal frame. The walls and roofing were made from a thicker inner layer of plasticrete and a thinner outer layer of local colored shellstone in order to match the style of the older buildings already present on the Tispen plateau. The building has a single double-door entrace, although the original doors have long since been replaced with more durable and secure moresteel ones.Interior
The interior of the ground floor has white, smooth-polished walls and a floor fitted with a thin layer of the same colored shellstone as was used on the exterior. The lower levels were given more easily maintained plasteel floors and walls, and most doors, stairwells and the main elevator is primarily constructed from moresteel.Defenses
The building has been kept up to date with the latest security systems in order to prevent unauthorized access and prevent attempts at breaching the archive vaults themselves. The lower levels of the building, which hosts the actual databanks, have also been constructed with longevity in mind and many precautions were taken in its construction to ensure they'd be able to withstand possible disasters and war.Geography
The Royal Atheneum is enclosed within one of several "districts" within the Royal Atheneum of Hövnís, which currently is only accessible to authorized personnel. Due to being something of a tourist attraction, the district is surrounded by fences rather than walls, so that the building is clearly within view for visitors.Architectural Data
