Purpose / Function
Due to the population of the Vatian Empire rising over they past few millenia, space was something lacking in the cities. So they started to build tall apartment building just to keep up with people living the city
Alterations
These buildings were mean't to be three stories tall as designed, but due increasing populations empire often just add floor after floor to the point that they reach a height that the block out the sun. Along with rooms big enough to fit six people. Which of course the entire building is supppose to fit an estimate six hundred people. The courtyard in the center was also turned into a social area with tables and a board with news articles. A kitchen is also built into the side of the build for people to buy and sell food in the building and not have to leave the complex. A fountain was placed in the middle as well to allow running water for sanitation and health. Special pipes were installed too for rain water go into barrels and be distributed to residents so they don't have head to the common room to get water.
Architecture
The outside of the building is standard Vatian design, with just enough detail to make it look decent looking. Since its made of stone it just come out gray looking. But the floors are made of wood to cut down expenses. Once the building was no longer able to be built up clay roofing would be placed to make it look beeter and to signify to stop adding floors.
History
The building would first be introduced in the final years of the Kingdom of Vatia, after the sacking of Vatia in a attempt to harbor more people as refugees form the country side were escaping barbarian raids and the capital had no room to spare. Many of the origanal designs were three stories high due to rushing and at least fifty people were given residency in them. This change as the building grew and spacing was shrieked to cram more people in them making a few hundred people to fit in them.
