Summary

The Master of the Hammer

Karathal was no ordinary Dwarf for he was thee Dwarf among Dwarves as he was truly blessed by the mountains. His skill at a forge alone was that of legend as he spent a century in isolation to truly master his craft. His mind was also blessed by his ancestors as well as he built more then just weapons and armor that were said to withstand dragon fire, he built fortresses and halls that were said to be so magnificent that it would make the most stoic of Dwarves shed tears. He even built his own tools to ensure his creations would achieve perfection. His most famous tool being his hammer, Murzaul a runic smith hammer that was said to spark blue embers when ever it hit metal to ensure that it was perfectly tempered. Along with shattering anything that it master saw as it enemy as if the where nothing. It was said to have been forged from deep with in the earth where the molten fire of the earth lays and engraved with runes that were crafted to perfection by Karathal after years of study with them. For many centuries was both used as a builder of wonders and a deliverer of ruin when ever it was struck by Karathal till the day he died. But Karathel knew that the hammer fell into the wrong hands would bring destruction to all and with his last dying breath threw into the deaths of the mountains where no one could find it. But deep down he knew on day someone would crime across it and enchanted the runes on it to only be wielded by those who were true smiths by heart as they were the only one who could ensure they were used properly.  

The Power of the Hammer

Murzual was a hammer like any other as it was said to been as light as a feather yet as strong as it was forge within the fires deep with the earth. It was bless with three runes, one of fire, one of strength and one of endurance. All of which added in the creation and destruction of what ever it struck. It was used to create the crowns of kings and break the thickest hides of any beast. It was said to shake the mountain side once where it brought down Vascarion, the dreaded black dragon with one blow to the head shattering his skull to pieces. Many sought the power of the hammer but all would fail in doing so as it master would dispatch them them with ease. Along with building the fortress of High Rock on the top of the world on the highest of mountains where all else failed as the cold would see all built on it crumble. But when Karathal passed on and returned to the earth his chanted the hammer to he wielded by those who were worthy to wield it. Making it a weapon that is truly a legend to behold.

Historical Basis

Karathal was an enigma to his own people as bared no heirs or had any kin making his existence more of a myth to some. But his tomb does exist on High Rock, his greatest achievement. As for his hammer though, no one has seen it since it was sent away by his hand. Of course due The accounts of the Chronicles of Karathal their is some truth that the hammer does exist and it was a powerful as it said it was.

It is known by every Dwarf form the highest mountain to the lowest hill knows the legend as many wish to seek it out to become master smith with it.

Cultural Reception

All Dwarves often wish to one day find the hammer and become the next greatest smith that the world has ever seen.

In Literature

Only in the Chronicles of Karathal are their any documents that tie the existence of the hammer as real thing. But the Chronicler, Helden Stonehead was a pit cryptic in his work as it didn’t go into full detail about it and more about Karathal

In Art

Many halls have Karathal and his hammer carved into their walls to honor him and to remind them of the power he held.
