There have been many creatures that have come into existence since the Awakening but there is nothing that is far more perplexing and unimaginable than the slime as its very existence should not even possible due to its biology and yet is one of the most successful creatures to exist on the Continent of Dageth

Slimes are limbless and shapeless with nothing keeping them together except for the substance they are made out of.

A slime's body is made of a flesh-eating substance that can dissolve most known organic materials. Their bodies are also able to latch onto certain things due to how they stick the substance is and is difficult to get out of it and the more it struggles the more it sinks into the slime. What's more, is its ability to change shape at will making it able to reach certain places or go through things that would be impossible for most creatures to do. But is the most astounding thing about its ability to move through water with east as its body does to dissolve in the water and can move in at great speeds.

Although they are unable to break down inorganic material such as metal and bone, they have difficulty removing it more themselves due to their bodies if they come in contact with it. Those who often have a bone in them tend to take the shape of whatever they are at to make it easier for them to be mobile or better to hunt, though it causes them to lose its advantage of being shapeless. Though depending on what it absorbs it can be much more dangerous to destroy with materials trapped in them to a strong defense. It is also possible for loot to be found in them as they tend to have the values of their victims on them as well.

Smart Eaters

There is an old saying that fits a slime quite well, " you are what you eat" as slime often changes what they eat as a piece of their prey's consciousness tends to meld with them as they become a part of them. This can also cause them to inherit abilities such as sight and sound for them to become better hunters, but if they eat something sentient, they become more self-aware of their surroundings and themselves.

Genetics and Reproduction

Slime can reproduce without any need for sexual interaction as they do not have any sexual organs to do so. Instead of once they grow large enough if a piece of it comes off it natural or forcibly the fragment with a piece of its subconscious in it will become its independent slime if it does not return to its own body after a certain amount of time.

A slime grows depending on how much it eats and will continue to grow the more and more it eats.

Ecology and Habitats

Slimes prefer to live in warmer climates such as underground chambers, tunnels, plains, and forests to seek out food. Often trying to eat whatever crosses their path.

Dietary Needs and Habits

A slime's diet regularly consists of eating nutrients that are found in animals often entrapping them within its body either dead or alive to break them down with its acidic body until only its bones remain or any other inorganic material as they are unable to break down calcium, metals, plants, and rock. Digestion often takes some time though with it taking thirty minutes to see any actual dissolution.

Biological Cycle

Slimes remain constantly the same to matter how long time passes as they do not age or show any sign of it and studies have shown that they can live for long periods as the longest studied slime to be researched lived up to a thousand years before being killed after it escaped its glass prison. But there is one thing that slimes do not like and that is the cold as their bodies freeze up with it and can die after prolonged exposure. Making many of them find their way underground to find warmth. Salt has also been considered a weakness to them as well as their bodies cannot absorb it making them dissolve.

Social Structure

Slime are relatively isolated from one another as they tend to lack the most common forms of communication with one another and often when they are close to one another tend to resort to cannibalism in a sense as they try to absorb each other with the stronger conscious taking supervision of the newly merged body. But if they achieve a certain amount of intelligence they will converse in any way they can and begin to form a community often with each member being independent of one another and sharing their thoughts.

Though Slimes at a primitive level cannot be properly trained. they do have their uses with them. One of them is being used in the torture of those who cross it. The reason being is due to the slime's ability to slowly dissolve its prey and the victim to watch part of its body slowly dissolve away painfully. Another method is suffocation as placing a slime on someone's face will block out all attempts to gain air. To ensure that these slimes do not kill the tortured they are often trained to follow certain vibrations that are forced to be memorized by being abused with fire and listening to sound being made when this happens.

Capture Personnel

For those slimes that are smarter than most, they have more of an opportunity to get a better life as guards to most people's surprise. Often just being around to capture intruders that enter areas where they shouldn't be or criminals on the run. Their bodies being able to immobilized anyone who makes contact with them until the proper authorities arrive. As long as they are fed and credited for their work there won't be any trouble with them. Though they tend to be a bit clueless at times if they are not properly told orders in who to attack or not and might capture the wrong person by mistake.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Acidic Poison: A highly lethal poison that is synthesized from slime as their acid becomes more deadly and can eat away a flesh more effectively.
Glue: Due to the stickiness of their bodies, slime is the perfect material to be turned into glue once it has been processed properly. It is much stronger than most other forms of glue made from animals to the point that if any of was stuck to you it would not dissolve for several days!
Potions: Slime material tends to be a part of several different types of potions with different effects on them. Most notably healing slaves to treat wounds at a much faster rate and to treat drunkenness as the acid tends to rid the body of alcohol much faster.

A slime's intelligence depends on what it eats meaning that its intelligence varies from only thinking about eating to being able to have a conversation with it.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Despite not having the common organs to sight, smell, and hearing, but are capable of achieving these things if they eat enough of their prey, but a slime's key senses are its sense of smell as they are capable to pick up odors that most animals can pick up and their ability to hear vibrations in the ground and waiting for them to strike when they come near.

Though Slimes often travel in search of food, some of them have gotten the idea to set up shop in certain places where the food will come to them. These are often found underground, in places such as sewers, dungeons, caves, and tunnels where many things often travel through may it be explorers or an animal trying to find its way around. they will often spread their slime around a certain area until it is mostly covered by it. From here the slime just waits for something to arrive to attack it when it enters its lair. The prey is often trapped in slimes that cover the area and the more it struggles the harder it is to get out of it. Once it knows that its prey is trapped it attacks and begins to feed on it.

Shape Tricksters

Slimes at times have learned to deceive their prey or predators too often mincing different shapes by changing their bodies at will. Along with being able to use objects or produce sounds to make them more realistic to that creature. Though this ability can only go so far and with practice, this form of deception can easily be mastered by them.

Sub Species

While it is common to see green slimes as the only type of slime to exist in the world several other species managed to be created due to certain circumstances that have yet to be discovered yet.

Blue Slime: One of the friendlier types of slimes as they do not feed like normal slimes, these slimes are far more intelligent and often take a host to nourish themselves. But rather than being parasitic, it is more of a symbiotic relationship with both sides benefiting as the slime gains protection and so does the host as it will gain certain abilities from the slime such as sticking to solid objects or be more capable swimmers.

Red Slime: One of the more dangerous types of slimes as they are more aggressive and their acid is much stronger being able to dissolve metal and plant material. Those being eaten by this creature will often face a much more gruesome death as once their acid comes in contact with anything that has water will begin to boil with the prey generally being boiled alive.
