Not Familiar with Savage Worlds?
Welcome to the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE), a fast, fun, and furious tabletop roleplaying game system designed to allow players to emulate high-action adventures in any setting you can imagine. SWADE is known for its streamlined mechanics, versatility across genres, and an emphasis on storytelling and cinematic action. Here's a brief introduction to help new players get started, focusing on two key aspects of the system: the Benny system and the initiative system.
The Core Mechanic
SWADE uses a variety of polyhedral dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12) for task resolution. When you attempt an action, you'll roll a type of die associated with your character's skill or attribute, aiming to meet or exceed a target number (usually 4). Rolling the highest number on a die ("acing") allows you to roll the die again and add the results, potentially achieving impressive successes.
The Benny System
Bennies are special tokens or chips awarded to players for great roleplaying, clever ideas, or just contributing to the fun of the game. They are a way to influence the story and enhance your character's abilities in crucial moments. Players can spend Bennies to:
- Reroll almost any die roll, encouraging risk-taking and heroic deeds.
- Soak damage, allowing characters to reduce or negate wounds received in combat.
- Influence the story in minor, agreed-upon ways, adding a dynamic element to gameplay.
- Jokers: Drawing a Joker not only allows you to act whenever you want in the round, providing a tactical advantage, but also gives you a bonus to your rolls during that turn. Additionally, when a Joker is drawn, all players receive a new Benny, and the deck is reshuffled at the end of the round.
- Special Rules: Certain Edges, Hindrances, and situational modifiers can affect how cards are drawn or played, adding depth and strategy to combat encounters.
