Plague of Pakani
The victim vomited copiously; it appeared as if a demon within him was trying to take all the water out of his body. While we gave him water, he seemed to just vomit it out again. Ten days after the onset of this disease, a quarter of our village was dead.– Merethe villager (Pakani Island)
Transmission & Vectors
This bacterium is transmitted through contaminated water. The villagers of Pakani Island were able to pinpoint the transmission vector of the disease, and specially trained villagers were sent to collect water from the springs of the river and boil it as the water supply of the village. After these steps were taken, the plague was beaten back, although by that time nearly a sixth of Pakani's population was killed.
Symptoms
The victim begins by coughing and running a fever. Soon afterwards, he or she begins vomiting copiously, which will continue for the duration of the disease. They will also start having diarrhea, as well as hallucinations after a few days. The villagers have not been able to cure this disease yet, but they were able to prevent it by boiling water. The disease kills about fifty percent of the people it infects.
