Tiskene

Shoot on sight

Lanxin was destroyed because of the short-sightedness of the commanders. The soldiers were paid in tiskene instead of salt. The drug made them weak in spirit and wavering in battle. Lanxin's commanders have been executed. Tiskene found must be dumped into the sea, and any sellers will be shot on sight.
Baiqiang Union commandant
Tiskene is a highly addictive narcotic drug contained in the seeds of the Tiska vines. The drug is generally produced by mashing the seeds into a brown powder and soaking them in a small vial of water. The water turns murky brown, and is often ingested into the body, causing hallucinations, an awful hangover, and a general loss of alertness and productivity.

Properties

Material Characteristics

The scourge is in the liquid form. Therefore, barrels of it may be dumped into the ocean safely. It smells slightly sweet, and tastes awfully bitter.
— Directive on the dumping of Tisken
The liquid may be compared to laudanum or opium. The color of the water is a deep murky brown. The liquid is somewhat flammable, and smells vaguely of fresh walnuts. The liquid tastes exceptionally bitter.

Origin & Source

The vine originates from the northwest Kava forests of the Salt Plains. In the vines, there are several seed pods, which contain the active ingredient.
— Commandant of Lanxin (executed)
The seed pods of the Kava creeper contain this narcotic. It is theorized that the Kava creeper evolved this defense mechanism against the Kava Gliding Rat, which chews its vines and seeds.

Distribution

Law & Regulation

Let the enemy be impotent with their drugs, while you maintain strict discipline in your troops. Truly, send the enemy gifts of alcohol, or tiskene, to weaken them before battle. Just remember to outlaw them within your own ranks.
— Manual on War
Tiskene is strictly outlawed in the totalitarian Baiqiang Union after the devastating loss of the city of Lanxin. The cause was pinned directly on tiskene, with which the soldiers were compensated.   What the commandant didn't see was that while getting his soldiers addicted to tiskene did make them more loyal, tiskene also lessened the alertness of his scouts and infantry. When the enemy assaulted, the city was lost. All people selling tiskene are therefore now executed on sight, or even worse, tortured and then executed.
