Empyrea
The people of Empyrea are mostly Human and any sentient beings from other races are immediately and irrevocably regarded as foreigners. As such, they are welcome to visit and even stay, but they are never made to feel as though they truly belong among the Empyreans, or that Empyrea can ever be a true home to them.
The native population is divided into two distinct groups of humans. The Damarani make up more than ninety percent of the residents of Empyrea and populate the southern strip that runs along the border from Eberon to Whitecrest Ridge. The other group, the Skeema, are nomadic tribesmen who live in the frozen wastes of the northlands, where the ground is never green.
The seat of power of the Damaran government is located in the capital city of Eagle's Crown, upon the eastern bank of The Canary Sea, the huge salt lake in the middle of the most temperate zone in the region, approximately one hundred miles west of The Owlswood (Forest). The sea gets its name from the bright yellow color of the rocky shores, as well as from its size, which is small for a sea, or very large for a lake.
The Damarani are led by King Brettyl Cloudshaker, once a hale and stalwart warrior, who has, in recent years, begun to decline in health. Brettyl has four children, Princes Raxys, Garthor, Wyllis and Princess Nym , in order of birth.
In recent months, there has been a notable uptick in violence along the border with Eberon and at the mouth of the Terror Canyon pass, as bands of brigands have been attacking from both sides in a manner that would seem almost coordinated, if it were not so farcically unlikely that ruffians from Eberon and Athijan Afrya could be communicating with each other over such vast distances through The Dreaded Wastes (Territory).
