Azuredge

Weapon (glaive), artifact (requires attunement)
Martial weapon, melee weapon
1d10 Slashing damage
Forged by the god Ephara, this intelligent glaive was crafted to defend civilization. Its current wielder is a former member of Force Grey named Meloon Wardragon, but the weapon is searching for a new owner.

Sentience

Azuredge is a sentient lawful neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 12, a Wisdom of 15, and a Charisma of 15. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet. The weapon communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Common. It has a calm, delicate voice. The weapon can sense the presence of non-lawful creatures within 120 feet of it.

Personality

Azuredge is sworn to protect civilization, and it desires to be wielded by a law-abiding person willing to dedicate everything to the city's defense. The weapon is patient and takes its time finding its ideal wielder. Azuredge has a solid steel handle etched with tiny runes, wrapped in blue dragon hide with a star sapphire set into the pommel. The blade is forged from silver, electrum, and steel alloys whose edges constantly shimmer with a deep blue luminescence.

Dormant

The glaive grants the following benefits in its dormant state:
  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
  • The Shield spell provides no defense against the glaive, which passes through that spell's barrier of magical force.
  • While holding the glaive, you can use an action to cause the glaive to glow blue or to quench the glow. This glow sheds bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet.
  • If you are a champion of Ephara, you can't be charmed or frightened.
  • If you are not a champion of Ephara, your weight increases by 30 lbs.

Awakened

When the glaive reaches an awakened state, it gains the following properties:
  • The weapon's bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +2.
  • The glaive has 3 charges. You can expend 1 charge and make a ranged attack with the glaive, hurling it as if it had the thrown property with a normal range of 60 feet and a long range of 180 feet. Whether it hits or misses, the glaive flies back to you at the end of the current turn, landing in your open hand or at your feet in your space (as you choose). The glaive regains all expended charges daily at dawn.
  • When you hit a fiend or an undead with the glaive, cold blue flames erupt from its blade and deal an extra 2d6 radiant damage to the target.
  • If you are a champion of Ephara, you may cast Hold Person as an action. When you do, roll a d6. On a 1-5, you cannot do so again until the next dawn.
  • If you are not a champion of Ephara, your appearance changes, as if your skin has turned to stone.

Exalted

When the glaive reaches an Exalted state, it gains the following properties:
  • The weapon's bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +3.
  • If someone tries to use Azuredge against its will, the glaive can become ten times heavier than normal, and can magically adhere to any Medium or larger object or surface it comes into contact with. Once it does so, the glaive can't be wielded. Nothing short of a Wish spell can separate the glaive from the item or surface to which it is adhered without destroying one or the other, though the glaive can choose to end the effect at any time.
  • While attuned to the glaive, you can't be blinded, deafened, petrified, or stunned.
  • If you are a champion of Ephara, your Constitution increases by 2, to a maximum of 24.

Heavy

Creatures that are Small or Tiny have disadvantage on attack rolls with heavy weapons. A heavy weapon's size and bulk make it too large for a Small or Tiny creature to use effectively.

Reach

This weapon adds 5 feet to your reach when you attack with it. This property also determines your reach for opportunity attacks with a reach weapon.

Two-Handed

This weapon requires two hands to use. This property is relevant only when you attack with the weapon, not when you simply hold it.
