Sacred Amber

Sacred Amber is the crystallized resin of the ancient Elderwood trees in Armeria's Moondrop Forest.  It was first harvested, alongside more mundane ambers, during the Age of Enlightenment for its natural color and shine and was used in early art and primitive jewelry.  The significance of this amber wouldn't be known until the Shattered Era with the early exploration of the Otherlands.  During the first expeditions into the Otherlands it quickly became evident that the hazy mist, later dubbed the Miasma, was toxic for Lorians.  It was initially believed it was due to breathing the substance in but this was later discredited when it was accidentally discovered that Sacred Amber protects from the Miasma.  The mechanisms of this are not entirely understood but the vibrant yellow of the amber blackens as it is exposed to the Miasma.  This blackening effect helps not only to detect subtle amounts of Miasma but also protects the carrier from it.  During the second expedition into the Otherlands, famed Armerian author and adventurer Bruno Roldan noticed that his Sacred Amber ring was turning a shiny black color, but he also noted that he wasn't suffering the same ill effects as his companions.  It wasn't long before the group realized the significance of this.  Several future expeditions were taken solely to test the protective effects of amber before it was realized that only the Armerian amber from the Moondrop Forest offered any protection.  Scholars now theorize that the Elderwood trees themselves must have some interfering effect on the Otherlands as the Moondrop Forest is the only region whose Otherlands equivelant is so mildly corrupted.
