Physicker

The physiker is called upon to heal practical injuries. Most diseases or illnesses are treated at home or by consulting a local healer. Often these are simply elderly neighbors who apply a range of unconventional remedies with varying results. Physikers are called when a person suffers from a broken limb or a laceration. In a surprising number of cases, treatment comes down to amputation.
Prestige: The physicker is not a respected profession. Many view a person who would spend their lives tinkering with the insides of the human body as unnatural. It is considered a low profession, and they are often not paid well. It is not unusual for a physicker to rob their patients. When visited by a physicker, the patient is often faced with the choice of taking drink to numb their pain or keeping their wits as not to lose their purse.
Accoutrement: The appearance of the physicker is truly gruesome. Physikers are commonly very large people. A large physicker is better suited to hold down the patient. Without adequate anesthesia, patients can often act against their better interest during an operation by fighting and thrashing about. Physickers often wear aprons, discolored and stiff from years of dried blood and viscera. They are handed down as a token of respect from mentors to their apprentices. They often smoke horrible cigars to mask the scent of death that lingers about them.
Training: Physickers apprentice underanother physicker for years. They must also train themselves on anatomy.
