Karthian Spellguard
The Karthian Spellguard is an elite military unit employed by the Council of Maji in Korth. Spellguard units are at times employed by the council in covert operations, whereby the Council meddles in the affairs of the different member states of the Kortharc confederacy. Officially, the Spellguard only is employed when major chaos erupts in the city of Korth, or member states call for the aid of the Council of Maji. However, the Spellguard have been known to coerce member states of Kortharc into calling for their help.
Composition
Manpower
Each Spellguard unit (there are five of them) is composed of 39 troops. These troops include 1 archmaji, 3 diviners, 5 illusionists, 5 evokers, 5 conjurers, and 20 advanced recruits.
Equipment
The Spellguard all are equipped with winged boots.
Structure
The Archmagi is in charge of each unit, and passes orders to each subgroup.
Tactics
The Spellguard are known for scrying on enemies and battles, creating a plan, teleporting to the target, and bombarding a target with spells in a quick manner. The tactics of the Spellguard units are so effective and awful that most member states in Kortharc only call on the spellguard in times of extreme emergency.
Training
The spellguard are Trained in the floating castle of the Council of Maji. Here the Spellguard units are said to train in warded rooms where demonic creatures are conjured to fight the spellguard.
Logistics
Upkeep
Magical troops are expensive to maintain, as spell components must be regularly provided to the spellguard. A typical unit requires 10000 gold a month in components and salaries.
Recruitment
The Spellguard is recruited from the mages the Council of Maji are training.
History
Historical loyalties
The Spellguard has since its founding been loyal to the Council of Maji. The Council's interests align with those of the general Confederacy on some issues, and the Council has been known to be too involved with others.
