Halflings

While some would be quick to describe a typical halfing as "lazy," some can be seen toiling away in a field or crops, or working to keep the taproom of their inn clean. Also, don't be fooled by the affable nature of a halfling, or their plump bodies-halflings are quick, nimble, and agile and are seen by some as the perfect candidates to commit thievery!

Basic Information

Biological Traits

With their rosy cheeks, and child-like faces it could be very easy to mistake a halfling for a small overweight child. The one thing that would shatter the illusion would be the Halfling's oversized and hairy feet. The feet of a halfling, despite their small size, are the size of large human male's feet. The tops of their feet are covered in thick hair that could almost be mistaken as fur. The soles of their feet are tough and padded like the paw of an animal, and halfling's (unless they are in disguise as a small child) never wear shoes. Halfling males can grow bushy facial hair, though their beards will never rival the majesty of a dwarven beard.

Genetics and Reproduction

Halfling parents typically produce one child per family unit. It is not unheard of for a halfling family to have two siblings in their house, however.

Growth Rate & Stages

A halfling typically reaches adolescence and puberty around 13 years of age. After adolescence, a halfling is considered an adult at typically 20 years old. A middle-aged halfling would be around 50 years old, though not a grey hair in whisker in sight, just a few age lines and wrinkles on a baby-like face.  Hair and whiskers turn grey and white, skin becomes wrinkly at old age which sets in around 75 years of age. A venerable halfling is usually somewhere between 90 to 100 years old.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Halflings love food. Of all types. Baked goods, sweets, and beers are particular favorites. If a halfling isn't eating, he isn't happy. Vegetables, meats, pies, creams and candies are all consumed at their five or six meals a halfling eats per day.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The halfling "nation," or rather the largest gathering of halfling living together is in the Thimblebark Forest. Traveling through the forest once can see the landscape dotted with the cottages of halfling villages. The halfings have no real ruler, or king, other than the Sherriff elected to run the day to day operations of each village in Thimblebark.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Halflings can be found in smal numbers in most villages and cities in Galador, but every halfling considers their true home to be in The FIve Shires nestled deep in the Thimblebark Forest.

Average Intelligence

Most halflings are quick and cunning.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The halfling race is the one that co-exists alongside humans the most. Several families have their own houses amongst human towns, and it is not uncommon to come across a halfling that owns an inn or tavern. They have no form of centralized, or even organized government; the halflings consider themselves subjects of the kingdom of Galador, and are more than willing to bend their knees to the Lord Regent.
