The following few entries have either been torn out, partially destroyed by water damage or ink splots, or are filled with meaningless ramblings. At best there are only brief mentions of the girl.   Some surviving things of note are:
  • She remembered her real father today. I don't know how long I can keep this ruse up; it's only been ten days and already the curse is flaking. The little bitch must have a brain made out of steel.

  • An art critic came by my black stall today. Claims he was checking the validity and originality of my paintings - ha! Poor simpleton couldn't tell a fake masterpiece from the real thing. These rip-offs sell for hundreds of gold pieces and he is non the wiser.

  • Diary, I discovered today that her bones are incredibly fragile. One sudden snap between my hands and her forearm completely shattered. That will teach her to behave. Her screams were as sweet as sugar.

  • Urmug came by again today to check how we were doing. I was a little insulted initially, but his visit has proven to be exceptionally helpful. The city watch had been getting suspicious - they were no longer beginning to believe that Madeline is my daughter, what with her almost daily tantrums. Fortunately for me, he agreed to put their minds at ease with a little more magical meddling.

  • At this rate, one day the stupid girl will believe whatever I say over everyone and everything else, without the aid of spells. After all, with the entire town now believing myself over a bratty child, should she run away again she will be not have a soul willing to help her. We both know there's no chance of her surviving on her own out there, so she has no choice but to stay with me. I look forward to the day I finally break her.
