Custodes Secretorum

The faithful of Kiennavalyriss serve primarily in the Alabaster Hall in Elsewell though Her priests and preachers travel out from the city in searcher of both new texts and new members of the faith. Priests are sometimes found in small communities but vast majority live and work in the Alabaster Hall as scribes, researchers, and archivists. They are reclusive and those that do leave the Alabaster Hall speak little to the outside world about the secrets held within it walls or the rituals undertaken by the faithful.

Structure

The High Scribe of Kiennavalyriss serves as the head of both the faithful of the Keeper of Secrets and as the overseer of the Alabaster Hall. They are also the member only of the Custodes Secretorum that is permitted to enter the personal horde of Kiennavalyriss, which they are tasked with tending to. The priests and preachers of the Custodes Secretorum serve one of two functions. The majority tend of the Alabaster Hall as scribes, archivist, researchers, and preservationists; the remainder travel throughout the Smoking Haven gathering new and unique works to add to the collection.

Culture

The Custodes Secretorum is a secretive organization as a result of its divine patron. The faithful are also quick to judge and to turn the Inqusition on the the trail of nonbelievers due to Kiennavalyriss's position as the goddess of law and the most faithful child of the God Empress.

Mythology & Lore

The Custodes Secretorum obsess over the Alabaster Hall as the crowning accomplishment of their god. Never is this reverence for their work more evident then in the weeks leading up to Yule - the holiday devoted to Kiennavalyriss and the one day she leaves the God Empress's Court to return to her great library. In this time of preparation the Custodes Secretorum clean and catalog the Alabaster Hall anew of the coming year and the High Scribe of Kiennavalyriss prepares the chambers of the goddess for her arrival. Little in known to outsiders of the rituals or myths shrouding these preparations.

Divine Origins

The Custodes Secretorum where those who followed the teachings of Kiennavalyriss once they arrived at the Smoking Haven. They where those who recorded the history of the Old Word for the Keeper of Secrets, which then served as the basis for her personal horde of knowledge. They served as guards for this controlled knowledge and as the builders and stewards of the Alabaster Hall. Over time their numbers and secrets grew into the organization that is active now.
