bathymar
A bathymar (or deep ship) is a submersible vessel primarily used for underwater travel. They are powered by an elemental engine which drives either a propoller or a set of fins to move it through the water. They consist of an elongated, enclosed hull made of wood with a set of glass-covered portholes ringing the hull to see through. Bathymar rise and dive through pumping water in and out of a ballast tank. Most bathymars can carry a crew of 10 to 15 at most, as the expense of building larger vessels becomes prohibitive.
