The Drowned Isles

This is a Summer Camp article, so it is a very-rough work in process   The Drowned Islands is the coloquial name used in the Saeric Lands to describe a cluster of five islands in the Gulf of Luentia. Forming part of the the Gulf of Luentia, the five islands were once an isthmus: a narrow strip of land that seperated the Mauraelian Ocean from the Unending Sea. The landmass once formed part of the countries of Auselii and Corium. As a location of great geopolitical and strategic importance, there were frequent and bloody, territorial clashes over ownership of the isthmus. Both territories were almost entirely submurged by flooding caused by a tidal wave in DATE SGC, leaving five small islands in its wake. The three largest, inhabitable islands are Turia, Olica, and Linae. In the Gulf of Luentia, the Drowned Islands are the most prone to natural disasters.

Title

The isthmus was once roughly 34 kilometres long, and was situated in the lowlands between the north end of the Godspine Mountains in Auselii, and the Centis Climbs of Corium. It was rich, fertile land - and strategically important for both countries. The territorial wars became inflamed after the colossal widening of the Seress River, allowing easier passage for vessels wishing to bypass the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Luentia by travel inland between the Unending Sea and the Mauraelian Ocean.   Port Turia frequently changed hands between Ausalii and Corium, and the population that lived there possessed a vibrant mix of the two cultures. However, as the Seress River began to experience increased passage by foreign vessels, the port city began to absorb elements of visiting cultures and religions. The most prominent of the influences came from the Saeric Lands. With repeated exposure to Raskvaerii and Kredasene sailors, the inhabitants of Port Turia began to learn of the Phoenix's foreign pantheon, one which was centered on forgiveness and new beginnings. Some were even drawn to worship these new deities alongside their ancestral gods. However, the Gulf of Luentia is situated in the territory of another pantheon. The sea god, Mytis, is known for His jealousy and unforgiving nature, would not tolerate the loss of His devotees. In a fit of rage, He unleashed plagues and disasters upon them to deter their newfound faith.   It was not until the aftermath of the Great Confiscation that Mytis's patience waned. Sharing His devotees to the worship of a deity from a different pantheon was galling, but the paranoia and fear that began to spread across His seas concerning the Raven's treachery, was insulting. He did not act until Auselii submitted its plea to join the Raskvaerii Empire. The sea god would not tolerate the political and religious annexation of His lands. In His fury, Mytis summoned a colossal tidal wave, intent on eradicating the heresy and reaffirming His dominion over the hearts of His people.

Destruction

On the morning of RELIGIOUS FESTIVAL, an earthquake in the Maurelian Ocean caused a huge tidal wave to tear into the Gulf of Luentia. The devestation wreaked resulted in the deaths of thousands along the coastline, but the main devestation was centered on the isthmus.
The land was dragged, screaming, beneath the waves.
