The Great Quakes
During the summer of 1931 CE a series of earthquakes ravaged the west coast of North America. One after another, over a span of 4 years, fault lines along the formation known as the Ring of Fire began to violently shift, leading to a cascading series of catastrophic quakes, powerful enough to level entire cities. The geography of the west coast was forever changed, new hills and mountains, gorges, lakes, and rivers formed as the country shook. The entire southwest region was evacuated, most of the refugees fled to the Pacific Northwest where some cities had survived the Great Quakes.
