Professor Grigoresis' Lecture on Arcane Runes (Transcript)

Is the board recording? Wonderful, let's start the lecture. Wake up class, you can nap after this.
Runes, the main way for wizards to utilize the, uh, arcane energies of the universe. There's eight types we've discovered that are effective. Um, so we'll analyze the runes wizards most commonly use and figure out what they do and how to remember it. As I'm drawing these, keep in mind I'm drawing them slightly wrong, to use a rune properly it has to be drawn perfectly, whether with your wand, staff, focus, or whatever tools you use. So I draw them a bit wrong to keep the class from blowing up. Uh, you'll learn how to draw them properly when you join you're separate schools.

So the first thing you might notice is how the top half are fairly simple, and the bottom half are complicated. This, uh, is simply because the bottom types of spells are much more complex to make the arcane energies do what you want. Also keep in mind that the simple top spells are called "Weaves" because you have to weave in the rune, as you can see with the spirals they all have. While the bottom ones are called "Stitches" because of the dots that stitch together the runes. They have official names, but it's not on the AP test, so I won't bore you with details. So let's look at the runes one by one.
Uh, so the first one is the Evocation runes, the way I remember it is how it looks like a fireball, which is what a majority of wizards like to use it for *laughter from students.* The Evocation school is very good at using raw energy to make explosive effects, it's also the easiest school to get started with, though it's pretty difficult to master. Any wizard can manipulate Arcane Energy to make an explosion, a good one can make an explosion that doesn't kill his friends.
The, uh, next one is Necromancy. Now I need to make one thing clear, necromancy is not inherently evil as most people, uh, make it out to be. Necromancy is very good for medical situations, especially for donating organs and such. And a necromancer is your best friend during a zombie attack. As long as you use your power well, uh, it doesn't matter what that power is. Anyway, I remember how to use it because it looks like a skull. Not much more to say, uh... next rune.
The third one is Transmutation, it used to be a "Stitch" but, uh, the wizard Tiberius discovered a simpler way to draw the run by using Bigby's laws of magic rule #4 and mixing that with Mordekainen's Equation of Equal Transference. That's stuff you don't need to know about either unless you become a War Wizard or become a Transmutation wizard. Uh, anyway, so it's used for making one thing something else, it looks like a scale, so that's how I remember. I remember it used to be the huge wizard craze, but let's move on.
Next we have Divination, which is for seeing the future and finding information to help you, I remember that by looking at it as an all seeing eye. I don't like divination, uh, my least favorite degree. But I digress, let's move on.
*The Bell Rings*
Ah, we're out of time, tomorrow we'll talk about the rest of the runes and their effects. Have a good lunch break.
