Session 13 - Kingbreaker

General Summary

Time has advanced to the 9th of Gozran. How are you weathering the storm?   After taking a moment to resupply, the heroes have resumed their exploration of the Stolen Lands by heading due south again upon the assumption the Stag Lord Bandits' base was within the forest. Their search proved to bear not fruit but fangs as they stumbled, quite literally, into a hole with a trapped animal. Emerging from the forest upon the shores of Lake Tuskwater, however, was a sight of a fortress standing tall in the distance.   Spying on the fort from the distance the heroes discover that it seemed to be populated with people, as seen by the figures standing guard in the watch towers. Closer inspection revealed that they paid most of their attention to the northern approach of a packed earth road leading up the hill, so Enir Fetchling and Faenulos Canathrimel decided to attempt to scout closer during the night. However as they approached the earth exploded as unliving corpses began to slowly pour forth. After cutting down a few their numbers proved to be too numerous and so they retreated.

Taking a moment to treat their wounds they decided that running up past the shambling horde was their best option. Doing so easily, they reached the dubiously sharp palisade and began to climb. Taking care to not cut themselves, the heroes began to scale the wall. Upon reaching the top they were noticed by one of the sentries who then began the process of alerting the rest of the fort. The heroes all finally scaled the palisade unscathed and gathered themselves. The assault on the bandits has just begun. Or so they hoped, nobody asked any questions.

Circling around the western side and rounding the front the heroes came face to face with three of the fortress' residents. While two of them had a foppish appearance and the other looked gaunt and gangly that seemed to not paint them as bandits they drew arms and prepared to defend their turf. The combat raged in the northern section of the fortress as bandits rushed to meet the intruders as a another bandit stood back and watched. From above, a large man descended from the second floor with the body, and mind, of an Ox. He turned towards Dovan who gave him the okay and he began to strike out. However he was quickly laid low by a savage application of spell and sorcery from Beatrice LaRue.   The bandit who stayed back simply whistled at how quick the tides were turning against him and calmly opened the cage to something next to him before throwing a rock to agitate it. After sufficiently motivating the unknown entity the man dove over the rubble in the east and disappeared. Roaring angrily and stumbling out of its cell was a beast of fur and feather: An Owlbear. Cleaving a hapless bandit who dared to exist, it quickly made its presence known as the heroes slowly began to press in.   As the battle raged, moments later another unknown man emerged from the cloth dividers on the south. Seeing the current state the fortress was in, he tore off his amulet and declared his intention to fight with the heroes.   As the beast let loose an ear piercing screech, unnerving the surrounding combatants, that was the impetus in which one entity would be roused from his seclusion. Stepping out from the confines of his room was the terror of the Greenbelt himself. A man whose torso wore scars like a second skin, whose muscles beat any who opposed him into submission, and whose face was synonymous with the skull of the majestic elk. Clutching his longbow at his side, knuckles white with exertion, was the man known as The Stag Lord. A guttural condemnation of their actions taken against him was evoked and their punishment:   Summary Execution by his hand.
