Session 17 - The Puma, the Witch, and the Whipcrack

General Summary

The starry month of Desnus comes to a close as the 1st of Sarenith dawns. With the month of the Dawnflower comes radiant heat.
Returning to Clemency, the heroes take a moment to gather themselves before setting out once more. Crossing the Skunk river, the heroes follow one of Jubilost Narthopple's markers and find the home of The Old Beldame and made introductions. Their conversation revealed information regarding Candlemere Tower, the Iruxi tribe living nearby, and a hostile Hermit living deeper west into the forest. Cutting their conversation short, Elga told them that should they wish to return they need to make themselves useful and return with mushrooms from The Mudbowl across the lake.
Leaving the Crone, the heroes ventured west seeking the hermit on the grounds of safeguarding Ista's most recently expanded border. Their curiosity was met with horror as a nighttime ambush by the hostile hermit and his twin pumas. Sleeping and unarmored, the heroes came under attack through whisker and whip. Spewing vitriol and commanding his pets, the hermit laid down a brutal assault but was ultimately laid low with his pets having their flight-or-flight instincts kick in after receiving a beating.
Licking their wounds, the heroes searched the remainder of the territory and found the hollow tree the hermit claimed and found meagre amount of treasure. Some petty coins and potions but also a unique silver locket and a mysterious map. A moment of clarity reveals that the hermit bore a striking resemblance to Bokken and this could have been the estranged brother. With this all complete, the heroes returned back to Clemency to settle in before the month of Sarenith.
