Session 7 - Of Thylacine, Elk, and Bear
General Summary
Time has advanced to Pharast 19th, 4722. The weather continues to shun the cold and embrace the warmth of spring.
Making sure Harrim was healthy enough to travel, the party decides to part ways with him and travels south. Previously discovered was a large tree known as the Old Sycamore and a bridge crossing the river. Deciding to visit the bridge first, the party arrives at an ominous looking bridge and Strongarm decides to be the first one to cross. He does so without any mishaps but it creaks under his weight. Strongarm then coerces his horse to cross next which causes the bridge to fall apart, tossing the unfortunate horse into the river that somehow manages to survive falling debris and the churning waters of the river. That horse does not allow Strongarm to approach anymore.
Travelling back to the bandit encampment the party establishes camp but are attacked in the night by a trio of wild predators making an attempt at their horses. Thankfully they are able to defend themselves and return to their slumber.
Travelling to the supposed location of the temple Jhod Kavken and Tyg-Titter-Tut spoke of, they come across the temple devoid of ambient sounds and verdant greenery. Also watching the temple from afar is the priest known as Tristian who has been studying the location. After a brief introduction a plan is formed to attempt to defeat the cursed guardian. After taking a couple of steps forward into the temple grounds the cursed guardian, a horiffic fusion of undeath, life, and twisted growth, makes its presence known. After the challengers fail to run away after the display of intimidation, it charges. Taking special notice towards Deylen's display of Erastil's symbol.
The ensuing battle is bloody, with the corrupt guardian having the strength to down even the heartiest of warriors with a brutal frenzy. It does manage to cause severe injuries to Beatrice, Strongarm, and Zolahma and put them close to deaths door however the healing from Tristian and Deylen save their lives. Fortunately for the heroes, the assault of the party is too much for the guardian to bear and subcumbs to its wounds, and as it does so its form shapes from a bear to a human who sighs in relief as he rapidly ages and collapses into a pile of dust.
With the guardian defeated the immediate effects are apparent as life returns to the temple grounds with the greenery becoming more vibrant and the sound of birdsong filling the air.
