Session 9 - Mitflitting about the ancient tree
General Summary
Time has advanced to Pharast 31st. We welcome Gozran with open arms.
Deparing from the trading post, the heroes head east and begin to catalogue the plains that have been ignored in favor of the bandit problem within the forest. A hunter tells them a rumor regarding the eastern Sellen river, a river primarialy known for trade between Brevoy and The River Kingdoms, that a band of boggards have been acting in an increasing violent manner and the river has been closed for some time. Perhaps the Boggard would know something?
Continuing their trek they come across a single hut that is home to Bokken, an eccentric hermit with jittery speech. The conversation reveals that he is looking for a bushel of Fangberries, which could be found about 55 miles southwest of the trading post, and his brother, that if found should be beaten him for cutting off his pinky finger. Aside from the conversation and buying a potion, the heroes depart.
Moving southward the heroes stumble upon the scattered remains of bones and bodies. Investigation leads to an ambush by spiders who were dealt with rather quickly. Further investigation reveals a note with a cross by the base of a tree. Remembering a thunderstruck tree in the plains bearing a striking resembalance to the one in the handsketched map, the party departs post haste to become treasure hunters. Unfortunately for them, the sky opens up once more in a deluge of rain.
Arriving at the site of the tree, soaking wet, they dig around for a bit and discover a stash full of goodies. Beatrice makes an attempt at Haggis. It's not awful.
The party them decides to investigate The Old Sycamore. As they approach the corpses of Mitflits and Sootscale Kobolds can be seen littering the grounds up to the base of the tree. Doing a bit of investigative work they find the openeing to the tree and decide to sneak in. Scouting ahead, Beatrice LaRue and Enir jump down a hole to where two Mitflits are flinging marbles at each other. The Mitflits turn to the sudden intrusion, their mouths agape and full of spheres, and gurgle a battlecry. One of the mitflits is disposed of very quickly before the other books it deeper. Following the trail, they come down another twisting path and see a gaggle of mitflits torturing a single Kobold. They poke him with a sharp stick, the kobold screams. They are dealt with rather quickly before their morale breaks and they book it. Upon Saving the kobold, he prostrates himself, introduces himself as Mikmek and declaring allegiance to his saviors. At least until they reach the kobolds. The heroes then decide to arm him with a sword to which he squeals in delight.
