Church of Talos

In Faerun, the Church of Talos was outlawed in many regions. Talos was seen as an evil, destructive god; his worshippers were viewed as essentially worshipping death itself. Cast-out from society, many of his followers chose to on the Arks. A lot of the clerics who guided the ships through the interdimensional storms worshipped Talos, using his power to shape the weather around the Arks. They seized power in Z'ar Waterdeep, and have an established presence in the city. They now serve as a sort of religious mafia, where they are able to levy "taxes" from fisher-folk and villagers in exchange for safety from incoming storms.
