The Royal Family

The royal family consists of the current king of Alderia, the queen, and their children. The royal family holds the most political, financial, and military power in all of the Alderian empire. The head of the royal family depends on whether the king or queen has the actual birthright as an alderon, also known as the true heir. The true heir normally takes care of laws, foreign policy, finances, and the Jeshi which is the nation's military force. They are the general face of the empire and whenever official decrees are passed they generally hold an open assembly to announce them first before the official criers and gossips spread the news to the rest of the empire. The true heir also is the head of the Upepo mbaya, an order of spies and who gather information on the well-being of the people and eliminate potential threats.  While they tend to be the public face, historically it is usually their partner who takes care of the needs of the common man. they monitor guild activity to ensure fair labor opportunities and maintains infrastructure not only in Alderon but most of the major cities in Alderia. The king's daughters are inducted into the Upepo mbaya once they are 10 years old. They are trained until 15 before given a choice to stay and become platoon leaders or pursue other interests. His sons are trained at the same ages except they join the Jeshi. At 15 they are given the choice to continue on and become a general or pursue other goals. The eldest is the exception to this rule. The eldest must remain in their respective branch ( Upepo mbaya or Jeshi). They are expected to advance through the ranks of their branch while maintaining their studies. Once they have advanced enough in their respective branch they are then allowed to petition the king once a year to step down and let them rule. If not, then the transfer of power happens upon the king's death.
