Váre
The Váre are elves that have learned to take the form of wolves. This faction of elves serves as scouts of the elven race. They drive off or kill other predators, or people, that encroach on the elven territory. First established after the Ellarian War, the most honorable and courageous were chosen. Using ancient arcane arts those chosen had their biology change, something the elves would do more than once in an attempt to preserve their people. The goal was to bolster the elven forces by any means to stop the invading humans. Using this magic caused their ears to change into that of wolves and they gained the ability to turn into wolves themselves. In their wolf forms, they gain all the abilities of wolves but their ears look like a normal elf's would. They also were able to rally the wild wolves around them creating a synchronized legion of wolves to defend their lands.
As time went on and the war between elves and humans died down the initial company of enhanced elves began to separate themselves from the other elves. Choosing to live in small settlements on the outskirts of their cities to better protect their kin they began to develop their own customs and traditions outside of the main elven race. Adopting the name Váre and declaring themselves their own people. They passed these traits and traditions down to their children and what was at first a small settlement grew over time into several settlements that could form its own village if they were so inclined to. Their nomadic nature, duty, and love of the outdoors tend to see them roaming in small bands more than being at their settlements.
