Frogmin
Frogmin are an amphibious species that resemble anthropomorphic frogs. They walk on two legs and have three fingered hands capable of making and using tools. If they need to move quickly, they use all four limbs. Their large heads are dominated by wide mouths and large eyes.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Frogmin are bipedal with two arms and a head. Their arms are longer than their legs, and their heads are large. They are capable of moving on four limbs.
Biological Traits
Frogmin walk on two legs, but can move more quickly on all four. Some subspecies can climb on vertical or even hang on horizontal surfaces with their bare hands and feet. Other subspecies hibernate. Frogmin range in color from drab browns and greens to vibrant neon shades.
Genetics and Reproduction
Frogmin females all lay their eggs together in carefully guarded ponds and pools, which are fertilized by the males en masse. This means that Frogmin do not have traditional family ideas and values.
Growth Rate & Stages
Frogmin lay eggs in carefully guarded ponds and pools. The eggs hatch into tiny Frogmin with tails that are fully aquatic for the first year of their lives. The young lose their tails and climb onto land after a year, and are led to the main water source of the community, typically a lake or a swamp. The tiny Frogmin grow and develop for several more years, then once they begin to speak, they are introduced to the community and begin basic education in language, culture, and the like. After two years of education, they are considered adults, and join society in whatever capacity is needed or desired.
Ecology and Habitats
Frogmin prefer to live on and around the shore of a small body of fresh water. They do not like to share their water with other Frogmin or other species. Areas with plentiful small animals are preferable, as Frogmin do not like to farm or herd animals for food.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Frogmin can eat almost anything they can fit in their mouths, but mainly eat fish, small amphibians, reptiles, and mammals, and large aquatic flowering plants.
Biological Cycle
Some subspecies of Frogmin living in colder regions are capable of hibernation. The spring and summer are times of feasting when the fish are plentiful.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Frogmin elders make major decisions for the group, but are not officially structured.
Facial characteristics
Large black eyes and a wide mouth dominate the Frogmin face. They have no visible ears, despite their hearing.
Average Intelligence
Frogmin have similar intelligence to Humans.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Frogmin hearing is acute, but their strongest sense is vision. Their large eyes are sharp, and can see in all directions, with binocular vision in front and behind them.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Frogmin name themselves.
Beauty Ideals
Frogmin have no concept of beauty.
Gender Ideals
Females lay eggs and males fertilize them. Beyond that, the Frogmin see no distinction.
Courtship Ideals
Frogmin have no concept of courtship. All females lay their eggs in a small body of water, and all the males fertilize them.
Average Technological Level
Most Frogmin communities are content with simple iron or even stone-age technology for housing and hunting. Others use more advanced technology, often obtained from other species.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Most Frogmin speak Croaik, a language shared with Toadfolk. Many also speak Pritvy Standard.
Common Dress Code
Frogmin sometimes wear belts or bandoleers to hold their professional tools, but otherwise Frogmin wear nothing.
History
Frogmin have existed on Pritvy since the apocalypse. Their exact origin is unknown, though some speculate they are magically or otherwise mutated frogs, or the blending of frogs and some humanoid species. They can be found on all major land masses, always near water.
