Newsteel Strat Blade
Mechanics & Inner Workings
True Strat Blades are solid Strat Steel or Newsteel. Some blades are made with a Newsteel cutting edge and another metal for the body, and these blades are nearly as functional as a full Newsteel blade, but are less significant.
Significance
Strat Blades are ancestral heirlooms, and are highly valued by their owners. They represent the honor of the family. Newsteel Blades are also highly prized, and are seen as symbols of the beginning of new families and traditions that retain the honor of the old ways.
Rarity
Newsteel Strat Blades are uncommon among Strat clans. They are rare in other areas with Strat populations, and are almost never seen in areas without a Strat presence.
Weight
A typical Strat Blade weighs around three kilograms.
Dimensions
Strat Blades are about one meter in length. The blade is between 9 and 14 centimeters wide and one centimeter thick on the spine, with a razor edge. The handle length varies the most, but typically ranges from 25 to 40 cm.
Base Price
Strat Blades can only be purchased on the black market, and can cost more than a quality domicile.
Raw materials & Components
Newsteel Strat Blades are made entirely of Newsteel. Newsteel is an alloy that is based on Strat Steel from the planet Kivanc that has been reinvented here. Newsteel is a combination of iron and Nedj ore, along with small amounts of carbon, nickel, tungsten, and other metallic elements. Nedj ore is a naturally occurring radioactive mineral that has been affected by magics, and is rare; it has no other known uses.
Tools
Newsteel can be forged with common blacksmith tools, but requires a forge hotter than fossil fuels or natural gasses can typically reach. Most Newsteel forges are made from refurbished starship engines. Powerful mechanical tools are used to reduce the overall amount of time required to work the metal by days or even weeks. A strong acid with specific magnetic properties is required to quench and harden the steel.
