Pritvy Energy Cell
Energy cells are the power source for all kinds of advanced technological devices. The manufacturing process and the machinery required to build or recharge energy cells were lost in the apocalypse, as were most of the existing cells. Before long, energy cells became more valuable than the technology they powered. Any person who found an intact box of energy cells could become wealthier than they could have imagined, and many did just that. There was one person who found a box of cells who did something different, however.
A Kopek named Ayimray found 16 energy cells while collecting beetles for a snack. He took them back to the half-collapsed school building he had been sleeping in and began to study them with the rudimentary science equipment he could find in the building. After two months, he had ruined seven of his energy cells, but had gained significant insight into their inner workings and how they were put together.
He had reached the limit of what he could learn with the tools he had, though, and so he set off to find better equipment. Before long he met a Starmadillo merchant selling various advanced technological tools and gadgets in various states of disrepair. Ayimray bartered with the merchant until they agreed that Ayimray would give the merchant one two power cells in exchange for a quadcorder, an advanced multitool, and a twitchy RaMBot with the locations of several abandoned factories in its data bank.
Ayimray traveled to one factory after another, studying his energy cells along the way, until he found a factory that had manufactured advanced quadcorders and other cutting-edge tools. He spent the first two weeks he was there cleaning the place and pulling the broken tools apart and using the working components in them to repair the power generator with the help of his new 'bot. After powering his quadcorder (which uses an energy cell) and the RaMBot (which uses two cells) he only had four cells left to study, so he went about it slowly and with great care. It took him another six months of diligent study, which ruined two more cells, to be ready to attempt to manufacture a functional energy cell.
His first attempt to create an energy cell out of scavenged materials and components could have gone better; the cell exploded before it was even 15% charged, destroying part of Ayimray's lab and seriously damaging his 'bot. Repairing the damage he had done set him back another two months, but he remained undeterred. His second attempt was a failure, but with no disastrous consequences, and he learned more about the proper energy flow rate.
On his third try, he finally achieved what no other being on Pritvy had since the apocalypse: he built a new energy cell. His cell could only hold about 40% of the energy that an ancient energy cell, but it worked. He continued to work until he was able to consistently manufacture energy cells with 70% of the energy of the originals. During testing, however, he found that the cells charged to 70% could overheat and short out the device it was powering, and he realized that they could potentially explode.
Ayimray went back to the lab one more time and devised a few changes to his process. The result was an energy cell with 60% of the power of the originals that would not overheat, short devices, or explode. He began selling them, and people bought them as fast as he could make them. After he had sold about a hundred, he was one of the richest people in the region. He spent a large portion of his profits on advanced tools and an actual laboratory.
Once he had his lab and the best tools within a thousand kilometers, he went back to work on his energy cells. It took him eight months of hard work, but the next time he went to the market, he had a crate of 200 Pritvy energy cells, with 85% of the power of an original at full charge and with no possibility of damaging anything or anyone.
He freely shared the manufacturing process he had discovered, but since few people had the means to produce them, Ayimray continued to make money hand over claw selling his energy cells.
