Starscrapper Boats
Among all the seafaring vessels across the planet, the so-called Starscrapper is the most common. The name Starscrapper refers to ships of every variety of size, shape, and purpose, and indicates that the ship is built out of the salvaged remains of ancient starships. Most all starscrapper hulls are made from pieces of starship hulls, but some use fuel tanks, storage modules, and other large starship segments as their base. Some 'scrappers have other starship parts, typically jury-rigged and poorly understood by its crew, such as engines, power generators, sensors, and anything else the builders and crew can salvage. Other 'scrappers use less advanced components, and most have retrofitted navigation and steering systems.
Power Generation
The largest and most advanced starscrappers use salvaged starship power generators or custom power generators based on reverse-engineered starship power generators. The majority of them use less advanced technology; some are powered by solar energy, some use nuclear reactors, others use fossil fuels, and there are dozens of other methods that are less common.
Propulsion
The two main methods of propulsion used by starscrappers are propellors and starship-style engines of some kind. Starscrappers with starship-style engines typically have the low-power engines originally used for takeoff and landing and for precise maneuvering in space because they are less sophisticated than other types of engine, and thus survive more often and are easier to repair and rebuild. Scrappers with propellors usually have modest speeds, but scrappers with starship engines can maintain speeds of several hundred kilometers per hour.
Weapons & Armament
The seas are dangerous, with pirates and sea monsters attacking ships regularly, so almost all starscrappers are armed in some way. Most non-military scrappers mount defensive ballistic weapons, and some also mount more advanced weapons. Non-military scrappers used for piracy, raiding, and other dangerous and aggressive tasks tend to have more advanced weapons, more weapons in total, and more of their hull space and power allocated to weapons and fire control systems. Military scrappers often use some combination of plasma or ion-based weapons, rail cannons and other advanced projectile weapons, missiles, torpedos, and numerous smaller weapons.
Armor and defense
Most starscrappers use the armor that was originally attached to the starship hull that became the scrapper hull, although many remove some or all of it to reduce the overall weight of the vessel. Few armor options are better than starship armor, but the very best scrappers use spidersilk armor on their most vital components.
