Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Most Strat still speak Kivance, the planetary language shared by the Strat and Kopek, as well as their clan language. They tend to speak at least one local dialect, as well as the common language used across the planet.
Shared customary codes and values
Honor is paramount among the Strat. Honor is held by an entire family, and everything each individual does adds or subtracts from the family's honor. Honor is primarily gained through exemplary performance in one's profession and in hunting.
Common Dress code
Strat wear armor more than most species, and commonly wear metal armor for all occasions.
Art & Architecture
Strat art tends to be functional art. Their traditional architecture and boat building is typically done in an artistic manner, but their primary art form is metalworking, specifically blade making. Strat bladesmiths are renown across the galaxy, and Strat-made blades of common metals are even found in alien museums.
Coming of Age Rites
Strat children learn to hunt from a very young age, and to become an adult they lead a hunting party of their peers into the wilds, and do not return without a sufficiently honorable prize. The most desired prey for a coming of age hunt is a Ts'ss'shr'rahk, which was introduced to the local ecosystems. There are plenty of other suitable creatures for this hunt as well, but anything that could not kill the party is insufficient.
Funerary and Memorial customs
Strat bodies are left in the wilderness to feed and attract wildlife. This also ensures that the local predators maintain a taste for Strat, making their hunts challenging.
Common Taboos
Strat can be exiled from their communities for various offenses. Actions like murder and theft that most species consider criminal are among the list. More cultural offenses include poaching, hunting with dishonorable or ranged weapons, losing a traditional or Newsteel Strat Blade, and entering the clan's sacred hunting ground without the clan's permission.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Strat value physical fitness and prowess, but value honor and accomplishments much more than physical beauty.
Gender Ideals
In the distant past, Strat had different ideals about males and females, but they have become one of the more gender-neutral species, despite the physiological differences between the genders.
