The Last Battle at Peakfoot City
The Conflict
Prelude
The Northern Front and the Giants in the nearby mountains always had an adversarial relationship. Then the Front started mining in a mountain the Giants' called "Grandfather Mountain," a sacred part of Giant mythology. The Giants attacked and sealed the mine with the miners inside. The Front launched several rescue attempts which became skirmishes and battles with the Giants, and were ultimately unsuccessful. The miners died, and enraged citizens and soldiers from the Northern Front launched a series of unauthorized strikes against Giant towns and villages, leading to all-out war. The war raged for several years. The Giants' low levels of technology kept them from being able to strike the Northern Front beyond the border cities, but their mastery of the difficult mountain terrain and knowledge of extensive cave systems within kept them out of reach of the Front as well. The Giants destroyed two major mining cities at the cost of a significant amount of their own forces after three years of conflict. In the fourth year, the Northern Front succeeded in tracing a Giant warrior back to their largest community. They attacked with warmechs and infantry with airborne support and annihilated them without mercy. All of the remaining Giant warriors gathered in secret in the mountains just beyond the sensor range of Peakfoot City and attacked suddenly, catching the city off guard.
