The Taste of Kivanc

"The Taste of Kivanc" is a Strat cookbook of traditional-style recipes for local food. It is quite popular with Strat clans around the world, but much less so with other species. The original copies were in Kivance, but it has been republished in most languages commonly spoken by Strat.

Purpose

"The Taste of Kivanc" was written by Appadoc Hehn many, many years ago. He was trained by chefs who had actually eaten on Kivanc. Whenever he would eat another chef's food, he found it disappointing, and he soon realized that they were capable, but never learned the techniques Strat chefs had perfected over millennia. He spent years perfecting Strat-style recipes for the native creatures, like his signature Spore-rubbed cow steak. To maximize accessibility, the book was released in a digital package containing holorecordings of Hehn cooking each dish along with audio and text files of each recipe.

"The Taste of Kivanc" is divided into three primary sections with several subsections. The first primary section is traditional cooking techniques, with the subsections 'carving and butchery,' 'cooking with fire,' 'seasonings and marinades,' and 'flavor science.' The 'flavor science' subsection includes the chemistry of food and cooking, the biology behind the Strat palette, and other culinary information. The second primary section is traditional recipes for animals and fungi that has been taken from Kivanc and introduced locally. This section is divided into meat dishes, fungus dishes, and mixed dishes. The final primary section is recipes for native food, cooked with traditional methods and seasonings. This section is divided into meat dishes, fungus dishes, mixed dishes, and seafood dishes.

Publication Status

This book is publicly accessible for free. Some Strat families have original copies that are prized family heirlooms, but most old versions are lost.

Strat chefs (and their customers and clans) were overjoyed by the release of this collection of recipes and cooking techniques, but most other beings were indifferent.

Legacy

Strat have considered "The Taste of Kivanc" to be the go-to book for traditional cooking for generations, and there has never been a more successful Strat cookbook.
