The majority of the population of the Keep are of noble birth, and the average wealth of the district sits just below that of Daigul Heights.

Government

The Keep is under the governence of the Dreher family, who were given rulership of the district after Emperor Kondas established the Imperial Council to rule in his stead and moved the seat of power into the Grand Temple at Communion.

Infrastructure

The Old Keep

The district's namesake is the original palace from which the old emperors ruled, though now the structure serves as little more than a tourist destination and a minor administrative center. The Dreher family established a separate, smaller keep to serve as their headquarters, as the old keep itself was viewed as too historically delicate for the purpose.

History

Along with the rest of the inner city, the Keep District was constructed between years 502 and 508, shortly after the conquest of velaria and the establishment of the Akregian Empire as it is known today. The keep itself served as the throne all 67 akregian emperors, including Emperor Kelvin Kondas who, in the year 2491, established the Imperial Council and ceded all ruling authority to them. In return, the council elected Kondas as First Councillor, though he notably deferred nearly all decision-making to the other Councillors.

The Keep District, no longer the center of power it was, became something of an administrative center for the now much more bureaucratic empire.
