Kobold

Kobolds are draconic humanoids who stand between 2 and 3 feet in height. They trace their ancestry back to the coupling of a dragon and a humanoid creature, separated from their bloodline-originating ancestor's progeny by several generations, as compared to dragonborn who are less generationally separated from their dragon ancestor. The presence of kobolds in a draconic humanoid's bloodline is often touted as a sign of one's ancient lineage. Although kobolds are the inevitable result of a long-lasting draconic bloodlne, they are often treated poorly by dragonborn and kept out of sight in draconic-dominant settlements, typically being forced into underground towns. Because of this, many kobolds have become adept at burrowing underground, creating vast cavern systems as their homes. While these burrowing kobolds are the most common variety, there are also winged kobolds, who have potent draconic blood in them that is reflected in their wings, as well as the brightscales, who have managed to create a niche for themselves on the surface, refusing to be cast down into the underground as their cousins have.

Brightscale Kobold

The brightscales make up the few tribes of kobolds that inhabit the surface of the world, so named because their scales are touched by the brightness of the sun. They have adapted to dwell among the peoples of the surface, which has allowed them to find courage in spite of their cowardly nature, as well as given them access to knowledge they would not have otherwise possessed.

Burrower Kobold

The kobolds of the deep tunnels beneath the surface of the world are the most populace, known for their extensive trap-filled burrows. These kobolds prove to be deadly ambushers for even experienced adventurers. A burrower kobold has lived its entire life in the tunnels dug out by its tribe, rarely leaving for the surface unless driven out of their deep homes.

Winged Kobold

Winged kobolds are believed to be more directly related to their draconic ancestors, and thus are looked upon with reverence and devotion. In most tribes, winged kobolds will assume leadership of the warren, and their tribesmen will often dig out large open caverns in which their winged kobold may reside. In the absence of a nearby dragon for the kobolds to worship, the kobolds will direct their worship toward the winged one.
