Lindbreca

The Shield-Breaker

Lindbreca is the Brymtuscan god of camaraderie, ravens, shields, and war. They are depicted as a shield wall, the shields emblazoned with the emblem of a raven.   Shrines dedicated to Lindbreca are erected on battlefields. Each army has a group of designated shield-gatherers of Lindbreca, who stay on the sidelines of the battlefield, acting as neutral observers to the bloodshed. Once a battle has concluded, the shield-gatherers of both armies build a wooden frame in the shape of a dome as the bodies are being cleared from the battlefield. Once the frame is completed, the shield-gatherers collects the shields of the fallen and hang them onto the frame. Depending on how many were slain in the battle, additional frames will be built so that every shield of the slain is put upon a frame. Each dome looks akin to a domed shield wall.

Ravens

The coat of arms of the Lindbreca is that of the raven. Lindbreca is sometimes referred to as the Raven-Feeder as the god of war, as ravens are a carrion bird that preys upon the dead. A warrior who is called a "raven-feeder" is regarded as an excellent warrior, as that person has slain so many enemies so as to keep the ravens well-fed. Ravens are often depicted on the coat-of-arms of families with a long history of being in the army, or are painted onto shields in an act to gain Lindbreca's favor to inspire them to slay many in battle. The banners held by standard-bearers commonly depict a raven on them in addition to the coat of arms of the family to which the banner belongs.

Shields

Lindbreca is known as the Shield-Breaker, which is a kenning used to more generally refer to a battle among the Brymtuscan peoples, and the god itself is often depicted as a shield wall. Shields are the staple of any soldier on the battlefield and Lindbreca and his followers favor larger shields that cover both the wielder and the person beside them. To Lindbreca, is shield is not only to be used to protect oneself from harm, but also to protect the person beside them, and thus it is said among Lindbrecan followers that "all shields serve two."

War

Lindbreca's name is a simple truth: shields break. During battle, warriors clash with one another, striking at one another, blocking blows with their shields to protect themselves, but with each strike that a shield takes, it is more and more prone to breaking. When this happens, the fighter loses a key instrument in their survival on the battlefield, and they are all the more easier to kill. Ultimately, shields are an instrument of war.
