Neogi

The neogi are a reviled and feared spelljamming race of slavers and plunderers.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Neogi are generally small in stature, with most adults standing no bigger than a small human child. Their appearance is often descripted as a mixture of a wolf spider and an eel. Despite their physical similarities to spiders and eels, neogi are warmblooded.

Genetics and Reproduction

Neogi have neither biological sex nor gender. Instead, they posses a unique form of asexual reproduction. When an individual neogi reaches the end of its lifespan and experiences mental decay, other adult neogi inject poisonous secretions in the older individual, transforming it into a swollen 20ft tall creature known as a great old master. The great old master loses all intelligence and autonomy and their mind is overtaken with an overwhelming need to eat. As they eat, the great old master lays between 20 and 40 eggs, which hatch after two months. The newborn neogi then consume their parent and each other until only the strongest children remain.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Natural carnivores, neogi prefer their meat alive and screaming. Members of the species insist that proper "preperation" of their meat through extended torture enhances the flavor of the meal.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Neogi do not view themselves as a nation but may work together if interests align. However, gatherings of neogi can be frought, as the neogi view of everything as either slave or master means that all neogi gatherings must have an understood overmaster. The overmaster can be determined through negotiation but can also come down to personal combat or combat by various neogi's slaves.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Neogi can telepathically charm creatures, a favored tactic for securing new slaves.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Neogi communicate with one another in their own language, known to outsiders as Neogi but formally called K'azz'jak'n, which sounds like a mixture of snake hissing and insectoid clicking to nonspeakers. Neogi also speak Wildspace Common, though they often confuse grammar and syntax and overstress hard "k" sounds and elongate "s" sounds.   Due to collecting slaves from a wide array of races, most neogi are proficient in even more languages to ensure their orders are understood.

Common Myths and Legends

The neogi have their own pantheon of gods, but do not worship them as other races do their gods. Instead, the neogi make frequent demands of their gods and rarely offer sacrifices to them, viewing the gods as servants to the neogi race.Pronouncing the names of the neogi gods incorrectly is considered sacrilege of the highest order that can only be repaid with the slowest, most torturous death imaginable.   The neogi gods are:
  • Ka'jik'zxi, the progenitor god whose death created the neogi
  • Kil'lilx, the god of death, murder, and poison
  • Kr'tx, the god of war, brutality, and strength
  • P'kk, the god of fear and tyranny
  • Thrig'ki, the god of love (better defined as envy and jealousy in non-neogi terms)
  • T'zen'kil, the god of torture, pain, and suffering
Neogi spelljamming vessels general contain at least one priest.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

"There are only two kinds of neogi: the dead and the deadly."
-Common human saying on the neogi
Neogi view all aspects of life as a conflict between the owned or the owner, which often translates to slaves and the neogi respectively. Neogi relationships with other races is defined solely by their slave raids and relentless attacks. The only spacefaring race that have anything akin to a "normal" relationship with the neogi are the illithids, who profit off the neogi's slave trade.   Unlike nearly every other known spelljamming race, the Neogi are not reliant on the mercane to procure spelljamming helms, though where the neogi get their helms from or how they create them is unknown.
