Sterling Vermin

The Sterling Vermin were a low-level adventuring group from Yartar that operated in the northern Sword Coast between the Great Dragon War and the Banesmark Crisis.
The group dissolved in Elient of 1496 following the exposure of their inability to deal with the hill giants of Grudd Haug and the murder of Ygreesa Argnasi by Micah Pierce.

Structure

The Sterling Vermin were composed of three members.
Their leader, Tanner Liadon, was a half-elf wizard that pretended to be a member of the Breadwinners, the heroes of the Great Dragon War, in order to bolster his prestige.
The group's bard, Ygreesa Argnasi, was a dragonborn bard who specialized in the oboe.
Finally, the group's paladin was Ingrid Brighteye, an albino dwarf and a worshipper of Thard Harr, the dwarven god of the jungle.

History

The Sterling Vermin were formed in 1493 following the end of the Great Dragon War. Finding little success, and little pay, with the current contracts they were taking, the group's leader, Tanner Liadon, started pretending to have been a member of the Breadwinners, heroes of the Great Dragon War. This brought the group newfound acclaim and wealth, though the individual members of the group remainted relatively weak and often skipped town before their deceptions were uncovered.
In the summer of 1496, the Sterling Vermin were hired by the town of Leilon to drive off the hill giants who had set up a nearby dam. Knowing they'd be unable to kill them or drive them off, the Vermin instead recommended that the town give the giants as much livestock as they could, in the hopes that the giants would be satisfied and leave.
When the Heroes of Saltmarsh arrived in Leilon to seek assistance with the upcoming battle against the nearby sahuagin, the Vermin attempted to convince the Heroes to leave, unwilling to lose their lucrative contract with the town. However, the Heroes, believing the Vermin were fleecing the town, forced the adventuring group to try a non-appeasement tactic after scaring off Ingrid by making her believe her god was angry with her. However, upon seeing the structure of Grudd Haug, the remaining Vermin instantly decided they could not handle these giants, and were placed in the town's hold by Linene Greywind, head of the Leilon Lancers. Ygreesa and Tanner were placed in the hold, however Ingrid, who had stayed in town
While in prison, the Vermin were broken out by Micah Pierce, who had used a disguise kit to hide his identity. Once Ygreesa and Tanner were broken out, Micah pefromed a ritual for his patron to drain Ygreesa of life and give his patron her soul. Tanner, however, managed to break out of the bonds Micah placed him in and ran off into the night.
The next day, the Heroes found Ingrid while sneaking into Grudd Haug, where she was placed on a spitroast after trying to sneak in the night before. The Heroes freed Ingrid and escorted her back to town with the other prisoners they rescued. In recognition that Ingrid had tried to stop the giants and was almost killed, the town decided not to lock her up and let her leave.
