Vela Eridanus is a well-respected an traveled elven member of the Emerald Enclave, a druid, and the mother of Kinsey Eridanus, one of the Lost Star Detectives that ended the Damnation of Elturel in the late 15th century.
History
Born in 1101 in the Misty Forest, Vela connected strongly with her natural upbringing, easily taking to becoming a druid. However, she and her husband Caelum, a nature cleric himself, felt that there was more that could be done to keep their homeland, and Faerun as a whole, safe and protected. Together, the two of them joined the Emerald Enclave in their young adulthood, becoming members of its Planar Circle. Planar travelers and scholars, Caelum and Vera spent nearly half of their life in and among other planes of existence, seeking to keep the balance between them and the Material Plane. At the very beginning of the 15th century, Vela became pregnant with the Eridanus' first and only child. Deciding that planar traveling was best left to those younger than them and wanting to raise their kid safely, the Eridanus family moved to Altand in the Misty Forest. There, in Kythorn of 1402, Vela gave birth to Kinsey. For half a century, the Eridanus family remained in the Misty Forest, happily raising their daughter. However, in 1447, a strange interplanar articial sun, called the Companion, appeared over Elturel. Unsure of the Companion's exact origins and wanting to make sure its neverending artificial light wasn't harmful to the land surrounding Elturel, the Emerald Enclave asked Caelum and Vela to study it in detail. The two agreed and moved with Kinsey to Elturel to begin their research. Over the next few decades, the Eridanuses published multiple papers on the Companion's affects, including the way its magical light seemed to be absorb into the city around it, but were rebuffed at every opportunity from studying the Companion up close by the Order of the Companion, a group that considered the artificial sun sacred, but was in fact led by cultists of Zariel who didn't want to give away its infernal origins. On the 2nd of Eleasis, 1497, Elturel and everyone inside the city at the time was teleported into Avernus in the Nine Hells as a result of the same pact that created the Companion. As devils swarmed into the city killing all magic users they could find, Caelum and Vela hid their abilities and found themselves in Shiarra's Market, which was being protected by the vampire Klav Ikaia. The two began working in the market has medics for the sick and injured, using as little of the magic abilities as possible and trying to figure out how the Companion played into everything. When the Lost Star Detectives, which included Kinsey, arrived in Elturel a few weeks later hoping to save the city, Caelum and Vela met them in the market. Though they worried about Kinsey's safety, they did not stop her from adventuring and doing what she thought she needed to do, having been planar travelers themselves. The Detectives also worked with the Eridanuses to discover that Elturel had been taken into Hell when the Companion reversed its polarity, taking it and all of the magically infused structures around it over the past fifty years into Hell. To bring Elturel back to the Material Plane, the Companion would need to be opened and have its energy inverted again. During the Battle of Elturel, Vela and Caelum remained in Shiarra's Market, using their knowledge and magic to heal the market's defenders as they feel to keep them fighting. Later in the battle, they were joined by Kinsey and a few other Detectives, who held off the attacking demon horde long enough for Elturel to be teleported back to the Material Plane. Following Elturel's salvation, Vela and Caelum decided to leave Elturel back towards the Misty Forest, as their reserach into the Companion was completed, while Kinsey chose to stay behind in the city for a while longer, having come to see it as her home. The Eridanuses also extended an invitation to Arcus Miursa to join the Emerald Enclave, and they were given the honor of officially inducting their daughter into the enclave when she was accepted.
