Hakim Olunu

Born into House Olunu based in the small town of Al-Sufein, Hakim is the unlucky product of the intermarrying common among Calimshan's upper caste, but not for the reasons one might expect. Son of the wealthy Hassan Olunu and born into the family of Olunu, Hakim was consistently surrounded by magic since birth. Olunu is a house of noble sorcerer's who trace their legacy back to the ancient Emirate of Dalhan, one ruled originally by a mighty Bronze Dragon. The father of the household still keeps the title of Emir, even if its only in name. Hakim's mother was from a less notable background, Nyasa Olunu, born Nyasa Surfina, was Hassan's third wife and was married off to House Olunu to secure an alliance with the family. She has become a valuable asset to the family either war, but carries no sorcerous blood. So Hakim, being Nyasa's only son (though having two elder sisters, Suffi and Zara), grew up as an Olunu, a family defined by sorcery, with not a hint of magical ability.


Now this lack of magic would not be apparent right away, so Hakim would spend his early years training just like his siblings and many cousins in the arcane arts. Despite always falling behind in practice, he would become masterful at retaining information on arcane lore, which would soon be the only thing keeping him enrolled. At age 15 he was to be sent off to a notable magical academy, but failed the entry test. This humiliating failure of even basic magic would see Hakim spiral into depression for some time, only to be uplifted by his grandfather Abdul Olunu, was, despite his age, a notable merchant working for the shipping company Kuzein Lokna, which operates along the sword coast and is owned by the wealthy Calimhite family of house Haziz. Abdul saw potential in Hakim, needless of his failure to produce magic, and took him under his wing. Hakim would be an apprentice under his grandfather for some time, before becoming a full fledged organizer and merchant for KL. During that time Abdul would gift to him a blade he found on an expedition deep into the deserts of Calimshan in his youth, a Hakim had taken up anaffinity for fencing. In the months then years following this event, Hakim would slowly become not only an unaturally impressive swordsman but also gain some bit of magical ability. Believing this to be just him being a "late bloomer" in the arcane arts, Hakim has set out to become a mage to rival his family, in hopes of regaining their respect and trust in his eyes (trust that was never in reality lost, just that Hakim felt he had something to prove).

Hakim Asmerandi Olunu would seem out of place in the reaches of the Far North, but his eloquent and calm demeanor hides a man of noble birth defined by his ambition and wanderlust.
