Thundertree
Once a prosperous settlement near the city of Neverwinter, Thundertree was devastated by the eruption of Mount Hotenow about thirty years prior to the events of the adventure. The volcanic eruption covered the area in ash, destroying buildings and killing many of the inhabitants. Those who survived fled, leaving Thundertree as a ghost town.
Over the years, nature has begun to reclaim Thundertree, with vegetation growing over the ruined buildings and streets. However, the area is far from uninhabited. Dangerous creatures, including ash zombies created from the volcanic eruption and aggressive plant life like twig blights, now infest the area. Moreover, a young green dragon named Venomfang has taken residence in the old tower at the heart of the village, adding a deadly threat to any who dare enter.
The atmosphere in Thundertree is eerie and tense, with the silence of the abandoned village occasionally broken by the sounds of creatures or the rustling of leaves. The air is often thick with ash and the scent of decay, a constant reminder of the village's tragic past.
Adventurers come to Thundertree for various reasons, including seeking out the druid Reidoth, who is known to have knowledge of the area and the location of Cragmaw Castle, or to confront the dragon Venomfang. The ruins offer opportunities for exploration, combat, and diplomacy, as players navigate the dangers of the area and uncover the secrets of Thundertree's downfall.
