The Tales of Gyerim

Snowfall blankets the mountain village and buries my rocky lane.   No need to open the brushwood gate, none will come to see me.   Still, a crescent moon smiles brightly down, the truest friend I have.   -Sangch'on (Shin Hum)

  The lands of Gyerim are populated by several nations and confederations of city-states that have formed over the course of the last 500-800 years. There is a vague recollection of a shared past coming from some time before that can be seen in some of basic shared cultural icons and elements, but what that shared heritage is has largely lost to myth. The only sure constants are the arch of light that illuminates the sky in the day, the eons-long dance of the stars at night, the faint glow that illuminates the western sky, and the spirits of our ancestors that return to provide comfort and guidance from time to time.   It takes place in a unique world largely informed by historical culture with light fantasy and science-fiction elements. I hope to create a range of varying regions and nations all hoping to thrive, expand, and hopefully cooperate that realistically could have evolved from that central starting point. These lands will not be built around race or species exclusive enclaves. I will try and create a world where default "alignments" do not exist and peoples are able to exist together. I will try to find ways to incorporate representation of all different folk. If you see something in here that you find problematic, please feel free to let me know.
