Personal history
Calen was raised in the Alsocian Enclave, a druidic group in the Alsocius Forest. He performed the rites of passage, and offered himself to Estaes at the age of 50. He was accepted, and took his place protecting the great forest.
At the age of 138, he began having visions of the forest burning, and the Enclave under attack. The visions persisted for weeks, finally driving him to return to the sacred grove. The visions stopped days before he reached the grove, and he knew what it meant. When he arrived to see the dead bodies, he had an overwhelming feeling that he would not have made a difference had he been there - the mother absolving him of this particular sin. But he also knew that he must be quicker to respond to her will.
Over the next twenty years, he rebuilt the Enclave, ensuring protection for the forest. But then he had a vision of a wizard seeking someone in the forest, caught by an Alsocian Snow Leopard while in range of a sessiloth pod. He immediately left to get to the pod, knowing the mother was guiding him.
Calen arrived while the leopard was closing in on the wizard - drained of his powers, the leopard was a match for the elf. Calen, however, worked with the flora and fauna without the aid of magic since he was a small child, and calmed the cat, convincing it to leave them alone. The wizard was Venfaren, and he accepted the invitation to join the Circle. He remained mostly within the forest, doing the same duties he always had, but on the alert for the specific enemies Venfaren foresaw.
Near the great divide, he had his first true battle with the enemy Venfaren had told him about. He met a man with a golden coin, and strange powers granted by it. Calen was lucky - the man was just a simple woodcutter, and not prepared to wield the power of the coin. He killed the man, and was lucky to be wearing leather gloves when he picked up the coin and placed it in a pouch. He returned the bag to Venfaren, learning the secrets of the coins, and better understanding the problems they were facing.
