The Wild Sirocco

In the Desert's Heart,
Burning under clear skies.
Magic breaks and deadly winds will arise.
In the darkest night,
Rising like a pyre,
The Wild Sirocco comes and tranquility dies.

Wild magic comes
with deadly promise.
The powerful storm
turning sunlight into darkness.
Quickly we flee,
the rolling thunder.
When the burning winds blow
bringing with them death and wonder.

Do they all understand?
Is it us against life,
And can we still stand?
Can any of us last, alone?

In the Desert's Heart,
Burning under clear skies.
Magic breaks and deadly winds will arise.
In the darkest night,
Rising like a pyre,
The Wild Sirocco comes and tranquility dies.

In the Desert's bones,
The wand'rer surrenders.
As the sand drags him down
His body's lost forever.
The heat and the cold
fight to claim him
It's life and it's death,
and everything contained within -

In the eye of the storm,
Is it our passion that kills?
Is it man versus man
in a battle of wills?
Can any of us last, alone?

In the Desert's Heart,
Burning under clear skies.
Magic breaks and deadly winds will arise.
In the darkest night,
Rising like a pyre,
The Wild Sirocco comes and tranquility dies.

— Sullivan Peterick, Bard

Manifestation

When the Endless Desert bakes beneath the sun before night falls and brings cold and darkness with it, the Wild Sirocco grows. The atmosphere churns, the sand swirls, and the buried remnants of the ancient battle stir. These remnants are packed with magic, death, and destruction, and when the Sirocco blows, it carries them with it.

Localization

The Wild Sirocco starts in the Endless Desert, driven by rapid changes in temperature at nightfall. Mild versions occur often, and stay localized to the Heart. It is when the temperature extremes are highest, or repeated over the longest time, that the Sirocco expands away from the Desert and either travels north to the ocean and Helion, or south towards the great cities of Hellonde.
The hot winds are bad enough on their own, as the sandstorms can easily blind people and leave them stranded in the storm, soon to die from exposure. But the Heart of the Desert has long been infused with dangerous magics stretching to before the Shattering. When the Sirocco is at its worst, it brings wild magic surges with it. Some who have been trapped in the storm have come out as demigods, the magic infusing their very beings. Most don't come out at all.
With thanks and apologies to Frank Sullivan, Jim Peterick, and Survivor for providing a tune to wrap the lyrics around.
